Club Campouts

The Baldwin St CRC Cadet Club participates in three to four campouts each year. All our campouts are "Father-Son", which means that Fathers are encouraged to participate in them with their sons. If Fathers are unable to participate, other men involved in the lives of the cadets (uncles, etc) are welcome to participate.

In the Fall we have the Chuckwagon Campout, which consists of an overnight campout followed by a competition involving miniature Chuckwagons.
When the snow flies we have our Winter Campout, with an overnight campout in a heated building and a relaxing morning of sitting around a fire and hiking in the snow.
In the Spring we may participate in either a Rush Creek Council Camporee or an International Camporee Certification campout.  Both are held at the RCCC Campground in Allegan.
When Michigan turns warm we have a Summer Canoeing Campout, with fun activities like capture the flag, slingshots,  marksmanship at the gunnery range and of course, canoeing.

On our campouts cadets have the opportunity to practice their camping skills, ranging from axemanship and firebuilding to camp cooking. A duty roster is used to give each boy a chance to participate in different tasks. Other details for each campout are given below.


Chuckwagon

The Chuckwagon Father-Son Campout takes place in mid October, and involves other clubs from the Rush Creek Cadet Council. It is held at the RCCC Campground in Allegan County.


Friday Schedule

  • 5:45 - Be at church prepared to leave
  • 6:00-6:45 - travel to campground
  • 6:45-7:30 - set up camp
  • 7:30-8:30 - light snacks set out
  • 8:30-10:00 - free time, campfire
  • 10:30ish - bedtime

Saturday Schedule

  • 6:30-7:30 - breakfast for campers
  • 7:30-8:30 - bring wagons for inspection, free time
  • 8:30-11:30 - chuckwagon competition
  • 11:30-12:45 - lunch / break camp
  • 1:00 - 1:45 - drive home
  • 1:45-2:00 - drop cadets off at home

What each cadet needs to take:

  • Cadet shirt to wear on Saturday at the Chuckwagon competition
  • Sleeping bag, extra blankets, long underwear/sweats, pillow
  • Flash light
  • Appropriate clothes for the weather – layers, rain poncho if the forecast is rain, boots, gloves, hats
  • Jack knife if they have the wood carving badge
  • No electronic games or iPods / MP3 players
  • No candy or snacks of any kind

Optional items

  • Chair to sit around camp fire


Winter Campout

The Father-Son Winter Campout takes place sometime January thru March, and is held at the RCCC Campground in Allegan County. We "camp" in a heated building, and mainly relax around an indoor fire. The highlight of this campout is playing capture the flag outdoors, in the dark and late at night.

Friday Schedule

  • 5:45 - Be at church prepared to leave
  • 6:00-6:45 - travel to campground
  • 6:45-10:00 - free time, campfire
  • 10:00-11:30 - Capture the Flag!
  • 11:30ish - bedtime

Saturday Schedule

  • 7:30-9:30 - breakfast for campers
  • 9:30-11:30 - nature hike and slingshots competition
  • 11:30-1:30 - lunch / pack up
  • 1:30 - 2:15 - drive home
  • 2:15-3:00 - drop cadets off at home

What each cadet needs to take:

  • Sleeping bag, pillow
  • Flash light
  • Appropriate clothes for hiking in the snow
  • Jack knife if they have the wood carving badge
  • No electronic games or iPods / MP3 players
  • No candy or snacks of any kind

Optional items

  • Chair to sit around camp fire


Summer Canoe Campout

The Father-Son Summer Canoe Campout takes place in June or July  and is held at the RCCC Campground in Allegan County.  Activities at this campout include playing capture the flag, shooting rifles at the gunnery range, and canoeing on the Kalamazoo river. The below map notes our canoe route: Point A is a DNR boat launch by the Allegan Dam where we put into the river, Point B is a DNR boat launch by M89 where we take out of the river.

Saturday Schedule

  • 10:00am - Be at church prepared to leave
  • 10:15-11:00 - travel to campground
  • 11:00-12:00 - setup camp - tents etc
  • 12:00-2:00 - Lunch
  • 2:00-6:00 - Build ICC Structure or Marksmanship (Rifles and Bows)
  • 6:00-8:00 - Dinner
  • 8:00-11:00 - Free Time and Fireworks
  • 11:00 - Lights Out

Sunday Schedule

  • 7:00-8:30 - breakfast
  • 8:30-9:30 - Worship Service
  • 9:30-11:30 - Marksmanship (Rifles and Bows)
  • 11:30-1:30 - Lunch and break camp
  • 1:30-4:30 - Canoeing
  • 4:30-6:00 - return home

What each cadet needs to take:

  • Sleeping bag, pillow
  • Flash light
  • Appropriate clothes for hiking, swimming, canoeing
  • Jack knife if they have the wood carving badge
